| A leaked early driver to make the G80 (8800GTS) upwards capable of processing full Agea Physx on an Nvidia card. It uses the CUDA setup the cards have so for those of us with 8800GTS and above we can now exploit this in games which support it.
| Quote: | Delivering physics in games is no easy task. It's an extremely compute-intensive environment based on a unique set of physics algorithms that require tremendous amounts of simultaneous mathematical and logical calculations.
This is where NVIDIA® PhysX™ Technology and GeForce® processors come in. NVIDIA PhysX is a powerful physics engine which enables real-time physics in leading edge PC and console games. PhysX software is widely adopted by over 150 games, is used by more than 10,000 registered users and is supported on Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC.
In addition, PhysX is designed specifically for hardware acceleration by powerful processors with hundreds of cores. Combined with the tremendous parallel processing capability of the GPU, PhysX will provide an exponential increase in physics processing power and will take gaming to a new level delivering rich, immersive physical gaming environments with features such as:
Explosions that cause dust and collateral debris Characters with complex, jointed geometries for more life-like motion and interaction Spectacular new weapons with incredible effects Cloth that drapes and tears naturally Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion The only way to get real physics with the scale, sophistication, fidelity and level of interactivity that dramatically alters your entertainment experience will be with one of the millions of NVIDIA PhysX-ready GeForce processors.*

| Point to note lads, having looked into this a bit, currently only 9800GTX, 9800GTX+, GTX 260 and GTX 280 are supported with GTS being added in 2 weeks. And we will need Forceware driver 177.39 as well as the 8.06.12 driver to make it work _________________

| Watch this space now, a cracked driver now seems to have this working on ATI cards too
| Quote: | | Haifa (Israel) - This one did not take long: We already knew that Nvidia is working on a CUDA version for x86 CPUs, but said it would leave a modification for ATI GPUs to others. Eran Badit of ngohq.com told us that he has done it already and was able to get the Nvidia PhysX layer to run on ATI Radeon cards. |

| Full Physx support for G80/82 cards and beyond. So anyone with an 8xxx or higher can now, from 5th August, have full Physx for games which support it
| Quote: | Now this is what we call quick work. Just over six months after acquiring Ageia, Nvidia has not only ported PhysX over to CUDA, but it’s now set to release a WHQL GPU PhysX driver on 5 August, along with a bunch of other PhysX goodies.
Nvidia’s product PR manager for Northern Europe, Ben Berraondo, told Custom PC that ‘on 5 August a PhysX pack goes out, which enables PhysX for all GeForce 8 and 9 series GPUs, and also the GTX 280 and 260.’ The pack not only includes a WHQL PhysX driver, but also features various PhysX demos.
According to Berraondo, two of these were demonstrated at Nvidia’s Editors’ Day in the US a few months ago, but there’s also a new fluid dynamics demo which hasn’t been seen yet. The pack will also add full game support for current PhysX-supporting titles, such as Unreal Tournament 3, Warmonger and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2.
It looks as though PhysX packs are going to be regular releases too. Berraondo told Custom PC that ‘we’re going to try to release a PhysX pack now on pretty much a monthly or bi-monthly basis, and that won’t include a new driver every time, but it will include new software that uses PhysX.’
Of course, Nvidia’s purchase of Ageia will only really pay off if plenty of new PhysX-supporting games are released, and it looks as though these may well be on the way. Although no official announcements have been made by the game publishers yet, we have it on good authority that EA’s forthcoming DC comics tie-in, Mirror’s Edge, which is being penned by former Custom PC scribe Rhianna Pratchett, will support PhysX. As well as this, Bionic Commando and Backbreaker are also rumoured to support PhysX, although none of this has been confirmed yet.
Still, owners of GeForce cards from the 8-series and up can’t complain, as they’re effectively getting PhysX support for free on cards that are up to a year and half old now. Will you be downloading the new PhysX pack next week? Will PhysX be important in games in the coming years? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. |

| Quote: | From there on things got interesting. All new kinds of possibilities and ideas all of a sudden surfaced. More importantly, the best idea was this: any CUDA ready GeForce graphics cards, read: GeForce series 8 and newer, can now (starting from the 12th of August 2008) take advantage of PhysX without the need to install a dedicated PhysX card.
See, that GPU of yours can do PhysX in a multitude of options which we'll discuss today. So with a flick on your fingers, instantly (though slightly delayed) with the release of the new PhysX drivers in mid-August 2008, over 70 Million gamers now have the possibility to use PhysX on their machine.

What is really good news is not just the Physx things but the free stuff that comes with it
| Quote: | The proof is in the pudding. NVIDIA will release it's PhysX Pack #1 next Tuesday, August the 12th. It will contain PhysX-related freebies that will get you guys going on the right track. This is what you'll can expect:
nVIDIA PhysX Pack #1
Full version of Warmonger Full version of UT III PhysX Mod Pack (Includes three PhysX-specific levels) Latest Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 patch (1.05) First peek at Nurien, an upcoming social networking service, based on UE III First peek at Metal Knight Zero, an upcoming PhysX-capable title "The Great Kulu" technology demo "Fluid" technology demo Obviously at that date the release of GeForce Forceware 177.79 drivers and the new PhysX drivers 8.07.18 is pending as well.
So in closing, hat's off to NVIDIA for what they did here. The features are good, your options in choosing whatever PhysX solution you want to compute in is wide-spread and then the gaming user experience is just great. If you own a capable card; heck, it's free to even try-out. The introduction of PhysX is additional value, no-matter how you look at it.

Awesome freebies _________________
