And then theres some crap too Sad

Yes, again, regurgitated FV 432 Smile How many more times are they going to reinvent that?

Navy stuff but cool none the less Smile

Quote:
The carriers, to be named HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, will be the biggest and most powerful surface warships ever constructed in the UK. Once they enter service in 2014 and 2016 respectively they are expected to remain in the fleet for up to fifty years.

Quote:
Each ship will be similar size and weight as the ocean liner the QE2 The CVF dimensions are: 65,000 tonnes at full displacement; 284m (931ft) length x 73m (239ft) width at flightdeck level; 56m from keel to masthead – 6m taller than Nelson's Column; 11m max draft (keel to waterline); 9 decks deep + Flight Deck; 40 aircraft.
Each ship weighs more than 32,500 average family cars.
The maximum expected Air Group to be embarked is 36 Joint Strike Fighters and four Airborne Early Warning aircraft, bringing the combined weight of embarked aircraft to over 1,000 tonnes.
CVF will carry over 8,600 tonnes of fuel to support the Ship and her aircraft – enough for the average family car to travel to the moon and back twelve times.
The ships can carry more than 1,000 tonnes of food - enough to feed the crew for six weeks.
The Flight Deck area is nearly 13,000m² - the equivalent of 49 tennis courts or three football pitches.
The hangar is 29,000m³ - equivalent to 12 Olympic swimming pools.
The Ship's Long Range radar is the same size to that of a large mobile home.
CVF has two propellers of 6.7m diameter, weighing 33 tonnes each - Nearly two & half times as heavy as a double decker bus and one & half times as high. Each is driven by a pair of electric motors.
The ships’ anchors will be 3.1m in height, each weighing 13 tonnes - almost as much as a double decker bus.
Each of the two huge lifts that move aircraft from hangar to flightdeck can carry two fighter-bombers. They're so big one of them could carry the weight of the entire ship's crew.
Total crew numbers on HM Ships Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales are only two fifths more than on the Invincible class – even though they are three times the size.
Sixty-seven catering staff will cook the Ship's Company of up to 1,450 personnel three meals a day
There will be four galleys on board, serving four large dining areas, the largest of which can serve 960 crew in an hour. The entire crew can be served in 90 minutes (45 minutes when at Action Stations).
The crew will have a range of recreational facilities, when not on duty, such as cinema and fitness suites, available 24 hours a day. As is currently the case in the Fleet, all personnel have access to e-mail and the Internet, subject to satellite communications equipment not being used for operational purposes.
In Britain's last big carrier, the Ark Royal scrapped in the late 1970s, sailors lived 100 men to a mess deck. On the new carriers they share six berth cabins with large and comfortable bunks and adjacent toilet facilities and showers.
Using a combination of Diesel and Gas Turbine driven Generators, CVF will produce 109MW, enough to run a town the size of Swindon. The combined weight of the Diesel Generators is 800 tonnes.
There will be 11 full time medical staff, managing an eight bed medical suite, operating theatre and dental surgery, which can also be augmented as the mission demands (eg humanitarian operations).
CVF will produce over 150 tonnes of fresh water daily.
In keeping with the most modern navy ships the new carriers will still have a NAAFI shop stocking confectionary items for private purchase that would not normally be supplied through Government sources, and CVF will have a sizeable shop to cater for the 1,450 personnel on board.
Designing and building the ships is expected to sustain and create some 10,000 jobs across the UK throughout its design and manufacture. At the peak of assembly, over a thousand personnel are expected to be engaged on CVF at each of the yards at Govan, Barrow, Rosyth and Portsmouth.

Panther, about time they brought in a replacement for the Ferret which went out in the early ninties. Very nice bit of kit but as usual it has its teething problems. Don't expect to be able to use the offside mirror, the RWS controller is in the way. CASEVAC is a pain in the hoop aswell.

As for the Bulldog, its only an interim measure in preperation for FRES. The 430's had to be brought in line with current legislation i.e. independant braking and steering systems. I think for an interim measure its head and shoulders above what it was.

Nice to see the Navy getting some news toys aswell, shame other projects will take a cut to fund them.

Most useless bit of kit at the minute is the VECTOR, a 6x6 uparmoured Pinzgauer. What a piece of crap. It may be UOR but they could have gone for something better.

bad news- quote: Yes, again, regurgitated FV 432 How many more times are they going to reinvent that?...

Actaully a good peice of kit now m8- very robust with a new powerpack- outdoes Warrior now. The lads i have spoke to that are driving the new Bulldog now 'swear by it'-

it has foot brakes, more reliable auto/manual gearbox, steering column, more access points for maint and can easily push 50kM/hr. This coupled with better armour and tracks and aircon (Not NBC fans), makes this extremely trustworthy. Again this is only what the new drivers are saying, but having driven the 432 for 5 years myself, i trust the guys opinion on the new one. Point to note- i was one of the sad fuckers that actually looked after his wagon before the 'Centrally pooled' system (can't remember what it is called now- could of been the predecessor of ALC) came in, and i only broke down 3 times- 1- sprocket- Sennelager, 2- engine- Oman, 3- engine- BATUS.

My personal opinion is if u look after it, it will last, unfortunatly, if vehicles are centrally pooled, then drivers will be reluctant to put the correct effort into maint purley because the vehicle will be loaned out somewhere else and that driver will frick it and so on..... Lok at the example of breakdown 2 and 3- not my vehicle!!!

Anyway- good peice of kit..... for now anyway.

Hearing rumours about Chally Upgrade aswell- Powerpack, MMG and smaller diameter but more powerful main gun- would be interested if any tankies are in the know?

TROJAN Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers
Trojan is an armoured engineer vehicle designed to open routes through complex battlefield obstacles and clear a path through minefields.

Standard equipment includes a dozer blade, mineplough and excavator arm. Along with Titan it gives a common heavy Armoured Engineer fleet.

A Full-Width Mine Plough can be mounted at the front to clear mines and a marking system can also be fitted. It can also carry fascines to drop into ditches and tow a trailer-mounted rocket-propelled mine-clearing system.

Improved visibility is achieved by incorporating direct and indirect vision devices with low light, image intensifying and thermal imaging capabilities. The interior, and to some extent the exterior, of the vehicles have been designed around the crew station positions.

Trojan has the flexibility to support a wide range of operations, including humanitarian missions.

Weight 62,500 kg
Maximum road speed 59 kph
Road range 450 km
Engine Perkins CV12 diesel engine, David Brown TN54 enhanced low-loss gearbox and the OMANI cooling group. Auxilliary Power Unit (APU) is also fitted

Terrier Engineer Vehicle
Terrier is a highly mobile, general support engineer vehicle optimised for battlefield preparation in the indirect fire zone.

It will replace the existing Combat Engineer Tractor (CET) from 2011, providing mobility support (obstacle and route clearance), counter-mobility (digging of anti-tank ditches and other obstacles) and survivability (digging of trenches and Armoured Fighting Vehicle slots). Terrier will be faster and more mobile and will have more effective armour and mine protection than the CET.

Terrier is operated by a crew of two, or may be operated remotely in particularly hazardous environments. The vehicle can also tow a trailer carrying fascines, trackway and the Python minefield breaching system, clear scatterable mines, remove or enhance obstacles and establish routes while keeping pace with other armoured vehicles such as the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank and the Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle.

Terrier is fitted with day and night vision systems and is air-portable.

A couple of Cougars at SMC last week. We're currently outloading 'several' by rail to Ashchurch for conversion to Mastiff and Ridgeback.

There are coming through thick and fast from the manufacturer and supply time to theatre is getting quicker.

They do fit on rail, just. I doubt they will after the extra armour has been added.
